Saturday's Scoop: Sunset Music Festival to Shut Down the Strip

The festival culminates today with an abundance of musical performances.

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening Saturday in West Hollywood:

Main Event: Sunset Strip Music Festival

The Strip shuts down Saturday to host an all-day street festival of outdoor performances and indoor bar shows, featuring more than 70 bands—, Bush, Public Enemy, Matt & Kim, Cobra Starship, She Wants Revenge, Black Veil Brides,  and more. Sunset Boulevard will be closed between San Vicente Boulevard and Doheny Drive starting at 4 a.m. on Saturday and will reopen by 7 a.m. Sunday. See website for set times and participating venues.

Runner-Up: SASSAS Singing Shape

The Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound (SASSAS) is hosting a daylong event at  featuring a free workshop by Los Angeles composer and musician Jessica Catron, two singing sessions and a potluck dinner. "Shape Note" singing is a "tradition associated with the Deep South and introduced by itinerant music teachers to make the melodies and harmonies accessible to those with no formal musical training," according to the SASSAS website.

Other Happenings:

  • Roger Weir presents a Science Fiction Vision III workshop from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at .
  • West Hollywood composer Gamma Skupinksi presents Whopera, a concert presentation that features excerpts from six operas, at 7 p.m. in 's Fiesta Hall.

The Forecast:

  • The National Weather Service predicts patchy fog before 11 a.m., gradually clearing through mid-morning. West Hollywood will reach a high near 82, and drop to around 58 in the evening.
