Rapper T.I., Wife Arrested in Weho on Suspicion of Drug Possession

Deputies say they smelled marijuana and discovered additional drugs in the musician's car, which had been pulled over for a traffic violation.

Rapper T.I. and his wife were arrested in West Hollywood on Wednesday night on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, said Nicole Nishida, spokesperson for the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies from the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station conducted a traffic stop at 9255 Sunset Boulevard. The vehicle was pulled over for making an illegal U-turn, Nishida said.

"During the course of the traffic stop, deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle," according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department incident report.

A narcotics investigation ensued and the 29-year-old Grammy-winning rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris, and his wife, Tameka Cottle 35, were found to be possession of a controlled substance, according to Nishida. Deputies found pills resembling Ecstasy inside the vehicle and are testing the substance, she said.

The couple, who were booked on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, each posted $10,000 bail and were released from the West Hollywood Sheriff's station at 4 a.m. Thursday.
