Photo Gallery: On Route-66 Lights

The neon lights exhibit showcases Weho's unique commercial signage and iconic venues.

Many gathered Thursday evening for a citywide celebration of the impressive range of neon lights throughout West Hollywood. The reception was held at the Sal Guarriello Veterans' Memorial on Santa Monica Boulevard.

Guests enjoyed live music, "Get Your Kicks On Route-66" and other classic tunes, performed live by Catte Adams and Marc Hugenberger. Special guests included Terry Lea, Queen of Route-66 and  Jim Conkle, Route-66 historian and preservationist. Local restaurants sponsored the event by providing snacks and refreshments.

More than 50 neon signs decorate the city's iconic Sunset Strip and along Santa Monica Boulevard and Doheny Drive to La Brea Avenue--which is at the western end of the historic 2,400-mile Route-66. The Museum of Neon Art has a collection of four classic neon lights on display in the median of Santa Monica Boulevard near Barney's Beanery and one in Plummer Park. The exhibit will be on display for the next six months.
