Lomography Gallery to Exhibit 10 Winning Photographs

The store's competition, in conjunction with an ongoing worldwide contest, showcases local talent.

Photographers are scouting the globe to capture what inspires them most through a LOMO lens.

It is all part of the Lomography "Shoot Your Prophecy Rumble," a worldwide competition challenging photographers to snap analogue photos of "Future is Analogue" stickers or posters in creative places.

In West Hollywood, the  on Santa Monica Boulevard held a local "Rumble," asking Los Angeles photographers to submit photos that best embodied the "10 Prophecies of the Analogue Future"—a list of thoughts to inspire the analogue photographer, including “Leave the digital grind behind” and “Expect the unexpected and the excitement of experiment.”

The final 10 selections ranged from a dry LA River to barefoot feet in the sand—all taken with a LOMO camera, which boasts a sharp glass lens and high light sensitivity, resulting in brilliant, effervescent imagery.

“We, being in Los Angeles, wanted to do something for our specific community,” said Lindsay Hutchens, manager of Lomography Gallery Store LA. “We have a lot of active people on the website and people that come to our workshops, and so we wanted to have an opportunity for those people to have their work exhibited in our space.”

The Lomography Gallery Store opened in West Hollywood in February 2010.  They not only sell cameras and display art, but promote a love of picture-taking for beginners and experts alike.

Megan Morgan, one of the winners of the local competition, created her photo while on a road trip with her brother in Colorado. She captured her feet in a river bed with double exposure of mountains against the sky.

Morgan lives walking distance from Lomography. After buying a camera from the store, she said she started attending workshops each week.

“I learned a lot about the cameras and ended up meeting a lot of really nice people," Morgan said. “It’s just a really nice community and it’s been nice to get back into doing something creative.”

The gallery will host an opening night reception on Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. to celebrate the local winners of the "10 Prophecies of the Analogue Future" contest. The event is open to the public. Sushi and an open bar will be provided, in addition to tarot card readings and custom-made fortune cookies.

The exhibition runs April 16 to May 31.
