Why Go: Book Soup presents an author event with Alex Shakar, who will discuss and sign his new book Luminarium. The book is very clever and provocative, exploring today’s technology of what is real and what is temporary.

2. Book Sale

Where/When: Fairfax Branch Library, 161 S Gardner St, Los Angeles. Saturday, at 10 a.m.

Why Go: Come to the library’s book sale and browse through used books and other materials at great bargain prices. You can never have enough books in your collection.

3. Rick Ortiz Presents the Best of Reggae and Ska Music

Where/When: , 8430 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood. Saturday at 7 p.m.

Why Go: Rick Ortiz presents the best of Reggae and Ska music at the House of Blues Sunset Strip with great, live music by Hecho Mal, Soulfiyah, Son Locuaz, Sandbox Bullys, and Chencha Berrinchesat.

4. Panel Presentation: Transmission: A New Powerful Meditation

Where/When: , 8585 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood. Saturday, at 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: Share International presents a panel presentation to discuss the Transmission: A New Powerful Meditation at the Bodhi Tree Bookstore. Come and hear Dick Larson discuss how Transmission Meditation combines two yogas to provide two dynamic results.

5. What Did I Do To Be So Black and… (A dream I had after falling asleep with Fox News Channel on)

Where/When: Empowerment Center. 8106 Santa Monica Blvd.  West Hollywood. Sunday, at 7 p.m.

Why Go: Highways presents a consideration on a controversial alternative lifestyle, “blacks and gays in the Republican Party,” sponsored by the City of West Hollywood through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission’s Arts Grant Program. This new “mixed media piece” features a live performance and video by Paul Outlaw. There will also be a sculptural installation consisting of costume, set and prop pieces at the Empowerment Center.
