Wednesday's Scoop: One City/One Pride Launches in Weho

The city of West Hollywood will once again celebrate LGBT arts and culture with its annual festival throughout June.

June is recognized as Pride Month by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community worldwide. 2011 LA PRIDE, set to take place June 10-12 in West Hollywood, will feature the inaugural proclamation of LGBT Heritage Month by LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the historic Weho Dyke March and one of the largest LGBT pride parades in the world. West Hollywood is holding its own kickoff celebration from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at EQCA's Weho field office (8106 Santa Monica Boulevard).

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention first published reports of AIDS in June 30 years ago. In honor of the anniversary, Mayor John Duran, who is one of only four HIV-positive elected officials in the United States, will speak during a news conference at at 10 a.m. Duran will also introduce , a play showing at the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center’s Renberg Theatre at Ed Gould Plaza in Hollywood this weekend that explores the human dimension of living with HIV.

Three Day Rule Event at The London

The Three Day Rule website, which touts itself as the single woman's guide to Los Angeles dating, has organized an event tonight at the to bring together hundreds of singles who are ready to meet that special someone. The sunset cocktail party takes place 7-10 p.m., and will have a DJ and a hosted bar for the first hour. Twenty percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Surfrider Foundation. Tickets are $12 and $15 at the door.

VolunTeen Awards

West Hollywood will host the third annual VolunTeen Awards, recognizing teenage volunteers and the 2011 West Hollywood Youth Scholarship recipients, at the  at 5:30 p.m. today. The award show will also include a performance of The Hits by the Teen Actors Guild. Admission is free. To RSVP and for more information, call 323-848-6820.
