Thursday's Scoop: Shift Gears for Bike to Work Day

Commuters will be hanging up their car keys and dusting off their bicycles for the 17th annual event.

In honoring the that encourages commuters to get out of their cars and onto their bicycles, area public transit systems will offer free rides for people who board with bikes or bike helmets. Many cities are also providing pit stops for bikers. West Hollywood’s will be on San Vicente at Santa Monica Boulevard from 6-9 a.m., at the south side of the street.

It should be a lovely day for riding. The National Weather Service predicts a sunny forecast, with a high near 69, dropping to a low around 54. West Hollywood will see mostly clear skies with northeast wind 5 to 10 miles per hour becoming south southwest.

Currently, six churches/temples located in residential areas are not required to have a conditional use permit for the banquet facilities they have on site. The city wants some way to regulate the use of them. The Commission will discuss amending the zoning ordinance at Thursday's meeting in at 6:30 p.m.

 is hosting its monthly open air market at the store (1038 N. Fairfax Ave.) between 7-10 p.m. The event will feature artists, clothing designers, jewelry artisans, an herbalist and a variety of musical guests. Call 323-848-8613 for more information.

Uplift Project Kickoff Party

The is hosting “Sunset Bliss,” a kickoff party Thursday night at Isla Cantina. Openly gay actor Doug Spearman, best known as Chance from the Logo TV series Noah’s Arc, will be on hand along with several other celebrity guests. There will be raffles for prizes, including massages, pilates and personal training sessions. Proceeds will benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles' Team to End AIDS, which provides training for marathons, half-marathons and triathlons.
