Sunday's Scoop: Learn 'Confident City Cycling,' Get Free Helmets and Safety Lights

The classroom session is designed to offer education and promote sustainable active transportation, according to the city announcement.

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening Sunday in West Hollywood:

Main Event:

  • West Hollywood is offering a hands-on Confident City Cycling session in the Plummer Park Community Center from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. All participants ages 16 years and older will receive free bicycle helmets, safety lights and other safety equipment following the training. To register, visit the Sustainable Street websit, and for more information, call 323-848-6891.

  • Colibri, a performing arts competition co-hosted by the city’s Russian Advisory Board and “Unity in Diversity Arts Foundation,” will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the Gala Concert and Winners Award at 4 p.m. in . A panel of judges made up of professional musicians, singers and dancers will judge the competition. Tickets are $5.
  • Christopher B. Krebs, a professor of classics at Harvard University, will be discussing and signing A Most Dangerous Book: Tacitus's Germania from the Roman Empire to the Third Reich, 4 p.m. at Book Soup. Krebs' book is described as a "riveting story of the Germania and its incarnations and exploitations through the ages," according to the author event description.
