Pet Spotlight: Uzi the 'Schmooze'

This 3-year-old German Shepherd belongs to celebrity jewelry designer and master platinumsmith Philip Press.

Since West Hollywood is considered the pet friendliest city in Southern California, Patch decided to launch a new series that spotlights residents' most adorable companion animals.

Uzi, a 3-year-old black German shepherd, is this week's featured pet. Named for the famous German-born Israeli Major Uzi Gal and his namesake, the all-black weapon, Uzi  belongs to local celebrity jeweler Philip Press and is often seen at the  showroom in West Hollywood.

Press discovered Uzi when he was just a puppy from a breeder in San Diego. Three years later, he has become the best dog friend and "sister" to the Press' 1-year-old Jack Russell, and "part of the family," says Linda Press. "We love him."

When Uzi is "working" at the Philip Press showroom, he greets clients with a sniff and occasional lick, Press says. "He especially loves children, and women in skirts, but he has been seen getting fresh with ladies in mini-skirts," she says.

His nickname is "Schmooze," because loves to be a part of every conversation. "He'll meet everyone, follow you everywhere, check out your lunch, or just hang out at your feet," Press says.

At home, Uzi loves to swim. "He is obsessed with jumping into our pool. At first it was cute, but now we can't get him out of the pool," Press says. "Bribery with treats is the only thing that works. His swimming and other antics are always an amusement to our kids and their friends."

Your pet can be featured too. Send Weho Patch a great photo of your favorite animal companion and we'll put it in our Pet Spotlight series.
