Monday's Scoop: What to Do Around Town This Memorial Day

Veteran local news weathercaster Fritz Coleman will serve as master of ceremonies at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills 15th Annual Memorial Day Program at 10 a.m.

Forest Lawn Cemetery will honor those who died in military service in a 10 a.m. ceremony with remarks from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Councilman Tom LaBonge will be the keynote speaker, while Fritz Coleman of KNBC-TV will serve as the master of ceremonies. The Hall of Liberty will be open and the California Army National Guard’s 40th Infantry Division Band will perform.

While City Hall will be closed, the Farmers' Market in the north parking lot of  will still be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Buy organic and farm fresh fruits, fish, vegetables, baked goods, flowers and crepes. Learn local foodie Jennifer Brody's favorite recipes . 

Film Game at Silent Movie Theatre

The Silent Movie Theatre is bringing back The Five Minutes Game on Memorial Day. It will show the first five minutes of 15 obscure movies, and the audience votes on which film to watch all the way through. You are invited to bring ingredients to cook on the back patio. Tickets are $10 or free for members. 611 N Fairfax Ave. at 6 p.m. 

City Hall Closed

City Hall is closed today in observance of Memorial Day, and many businesses around town will also have special hours today, so check beforehand. There will be no trash collection because of the holiday. Trash will be picked up one day after your regularly scheduled day. Saturday pickup will remain the same.

Weho Weather

The National Weather Service predicts a sunny forecast, with a high near 75. Calm wind will become south southwest between 5 and 10 miles per hour. For those heading to the beach this Memorial Day, the Weather Service warns of a high surf advisory and gusty winds
