Five Things: Sunset Strip Music Festival and More

Here are five things residents of West Hollywood need to know today.

1. The Sunset Strip Music Festival kicks off on Thursday with a VIP tribute to Joan Jett at the House of Blues on Sunset Boulevard.

2.  Thursday's ultraviolet index level in Los Angeles will be 11, according to the National Weather Service.The reading indicates what the UV exposure is expected to be at noon when the sun's rays are  strongest. A very high exposure level reading of 10, or greater, means a fair skinned person could suffer a sunburn in about four minutes if not protected. Ultraviolet radiation is blamed for a host of health problems, including skin cancer and cataracts.

3.  There will be a meeting of the West Hollywood Planning Commission at 6:30 p.m. in the West Hollywood Council Chambers located at 625 North San Vicente Blvd.
