Block Parties Held to Celebrate National Night Out

Events across West Hollywood marked the 30th anniversary of the nationwide celebration.

More than a dozen block parties took place in West Hollywood on Tuesday as part of National Night Out.

The occasion brought together local residents and city officials as well as representatives from the police and fire departments.

"It's important for a lot of neighbors to just meet their neighbors and to connect with police and firefighters," said City Councilmember John Heilman. "They're the eyes and ears of the community."

The Kings Road Tenants' Association, which consists primarily of senior citizens, enjoyed live music, raffle prizes and plenty of food.

"We like them to feel part of the community of West Hollywood which they really don't feel a part of," said organizer Pam Komac.

Local residents seemed to appreciate the celebration at 801 North Kings Road, including twins Fred and Leonard Cooper who came "for the food, the drawings and to meet the neighbors," Leonard Cooper said.

Other celebrations took place on Rugby Drive, Lloyd Place, Horn Avenue, Hart Park and Plummer Park, among other areas.

This year marked the 30th anniversary of the nationwide celebration.
