Weho to Hold Transgender Day of Remembrance
The Sunday event, which memorializes the victims of anti-transgender prejudice and hate, will feature speakers from law enforcement, social services and family and youth programs.
Hundreds of people are expected to march Sunday afternoon to memorialize transgender individuals who have lost their lives due to hatred or prejudice.
The Day of Remembrance first began in 1998 after a transgender woman in San Francisco was brutally murdered. Her death sparked an outpouring of community grief and inspired the creation of an international day of remembrance, according to a city announcement.
West Hollywood will observe the day on Sunday by hosting a march starting at 1:30 p.m. at , and ending at the intersection of Santa Monica and Crescent Heights boulevards in Matthew Shepard Triangle, where a reception will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
