Weho Chefs Win Big at 9th Annual Restaurant Awards

Two West Hollywood fixtures won big at Angeleno Magazine's 9th Annual Restaurant Awards, Sunday night at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows.

The longest running chef awards in Southern California honored West Hollywood's  for "Best Atmosphere," and deemed Jordan Kahn, chef of XIV and Red Medicine, as "Best New Chef."

Kahn, the pastry chef prodigy known for his sculptural presentation, was praised for his "artistic ability" by Angeleno Editor-in-Chief Lesley McKenzie. She also had kind words for Eveleigh Restaurant, saying it was chosen for its "great views" and "cozy vibe."

"This award is great, because it means that we didn't just win for one thing," said Nick Hatsatouris, one of Eveleigh's partners. "It's for the cocktails, the staff, the atmosphere, the food."

Hatsatouris' partner Nick Mathers added that they wanted Eveleigh to be "a creative space and venue" that felt "welcoming and inviting."

If this award in any indication, then they have succeeded in their mission.

Other notable winners included Chef Roy Choi's A-Frame, which won for "Best New Restaurant," and traditional Japanese izakaya Jinya Robata, which won for "Best New Hidden Gem."

General Manager Kiwamu Q. Katayama could not have been more thrilled to be feted amongst such prestigious company. "It's so exciting. We just came over from Japan eight months ago," Katayama said. 

The awards ceremony was followed by a reception, featuring food and drink vendors from all over Los Angeles. All of the winners and a host of other Los Angeles fixtures, including Suzanne Goin of and Tavern, presented hand-crafted selections for guests.

A proceed from every ticket sale went to benefit P.S. Arts, a nonprofit that seeks to improve the lives of young people through arts eduction.
