Wednesday's Scoop: Senator Boxer, City Salaries and Smoking Ban

Wanna Know How the City Works?: The city of West Hollywood is accepting applications for its Community Through Engagement Academy (CTE Academy). The five-week workshop offers a hands-on overview of the city of West Hollywood and local government. Residents will learn how the city functions, tour city facilities, and participate in discussions with city staff. To learn more click here.
Barbara Boxer in West Hollywood: Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) will speak to volunteers at a get-out-the-vote event at Plummer Park Wednesday afternoon. The West Hollywood Stonewall Democratic Club and the Human Rights Campaign are organizing volunteers to participate in a flash phone bank event. Volunteers will call voters to help push for Senator Boxer's vote in the Nov. 2 General Elections. The event is from 2-3 p.m. at the Great Hall in Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd.
City Salaries: State Controller John Chiang has released the salaries for more than 600,000 workers' from around the state. Have you taken a look at the West Hollywood city workers' salaries? Can you count how many employees make more than $100,000 a year? I lost count after 47. Weho Patch will have a story about this later this week.
♪♪ Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles "True Colors" ♪♪ In case you weren't able to make it the Gay Men's Chorus "It Gets Better" video shoot on Sunday, you can now see the video online! The video hopes to raise awareness about LGBT teen bullying and help make a struggling teen's day feel better. Check out their "It Gets Better" video...oh yeah, that's Mayor Pro Tem John Duran in the video! He's a member of the group. He's a tenor in case you're wondering. (Video is attached)
Outdoor Smoking: The Outdoor Smoking Ordinance Task Force group will meet Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at West Hollywood Park. The West Hollywood group BlockTheBan.com and Councilman John Duran continue to oppose this ordinance. The group expects the ordinance to go to the City Council on Nov. 15.
LAST CALL -- "It Gets Better" at The Abbey: Wednesday will be the last day to shoot your "It Gets Better" video at The Abbey. It's all part of Dan Savage's It Gets Better Project on YouTube, a campaign that helps support LGBT youth who may be struggling with personal issues or bullying.
