Vito's Pizza Serves Up a Delicious Slice of NYC

This tiny eatery on La Cienega cooks up Big Apple-style pies with quality ingredients.

Tucked away in a bland strip mall on La Cienaga Boulevard, just blocks from some of the city's top restaurants, cooks up authentic, New York-style pizza at affordable prices. In fact, many think that this unassuming eatery makes the city's best pizza.

Step inside the tiny, unpretentious restaurant, which has only a few small tables and chairs for dining in, and behold a window case laden with glistening slices of pizza pie, as described in its menu. While wood-fired, Neapolitan pizzas are all the rage right now, Vito's Pizza resists this trend. Instead, its pizzas are made in a classic New York style with thin crusts, larger slices and quality toppings. Simply troll any food message boards to read the glowing accolades posted by transplanted New Yorkers, grateful for a taste of their hometown.

Favorite pizzas include the Mediterranean Veggie Pie ($26.50), laden with a generous amount of marinated spinach, broccoli, fresh tomatoes, garlic and fresh ricotta cheese; Vito's Terra Ferma ($28.50), its version of a pizza made with the works; and The Garibaldi ($22.50), a basic Margherita topped with meatballs, fresh tomatoes and jalapenos. It's named after the man who liberated Mexico and is an ode to that country's spiciness.

All its pizzas come in one size only: big! That means 18 inches of pizza. The dough is made fresh daily and hand-tossed to create Vito's signature thin crusts. Feel like something smaller? Then try mixing and matching slices from the case. In addition to dining in the cozy eatery, Vito's will also deliver. Or swing by to pick up slices on your way home from work for a satisfying dinner.

In addition to its pizzas, Vito's menu also has appetizers, salads, entrees, an extensive calzones selection and desserts. Although the pizzas are the star, Vito's Pasta Marinara with Meatballs ($11.95) is delicious, made with chunky meatballs, fresh basil and tomato sauce. The Baked Ziti ($9.95) is another popular choice.
