Upgrades for Traffic Intersections Underway
Countdown clocks and ADA-compliant push buttons for pedestrian crossing are being installed at 42 intersections with traffic signals in the city.
Upgrades are underway for 42 intersections with traffic signals in the city. Work began Monday to make all the intersections compliant with federal standards.
The upgrades include adding a countdown clock showing the number of seconds left for crossing the street, as well as installing Americans-with-Disability-Act-compliant push buttons and pedestrian instructions.
The project is funded with a grant from the Metro Transportation Authority and is expected to last several weeks, according to construction advisory sent out by Mayor Jeff Prang.

The construction work is being done by contract crews who will be accessing the equipment from the sidewalk. No traffic detours or lane closures are anticipated.
The first intersections involved will be on Fountain Avenue, starting at La Cienega Boulevard and moving east.
