Sinbad Heads Comedy Show Benefiting Ovarian Cancer Research

Comedian/actor Sinbad will be the headliner at a special comedy show, “Happily Ever Laughter,” benefiting ovarian cancer research.

Hosted by comic Jeanette Rizzi, the show is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip. Ticket price of $75 includes a buffet dinner as well as the comedy show. Other comics scheduled to appear are Troy Rawlings, Bobbie Oliver, Vargus Mason, and Darren Carter.

The show is sponsored by the Ovarian Cancer Circle along with Whole Foods and the City of West Hollywood. Proceeds will benefit the UCLA Ovarian Cancer Stem Cell Research Department.

The Ovarian Cancer Circle was started in honor of the late Robin Babbini of West Hollywood who was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer at the age of 17. Despite a complete hysterectomy and subsequent chemotherapy, the cancer returned and metastasized to the surrounding organs. Robin Babbini died in June 2006 at age 20.

“She was so young,” said Paulinda Babbini about her late daughter. “Doctors never [initially] contemplated anything as grave as ovarian cancer. This cancer usually strikes women over 55 years old.”

Babbini founded the Ovarian Cancer Circle to help raise awareness about ovarian cancer, so that others would not have to suffer like her daughter did.

“Robin is my inspiration and strength to work hard," she said. "Her spirit inspires me to stay focused and with steadfast determination make a difference. Now here’s a chance for everyone to help this cause.”

Babbini hopes the comedy show will become an annual event.

In honor of Robin Babbini who underwent chemotherapy during her senior year of high school and still graduated on time, Pacific Hills School, a small independent school located on Holloway Street, gives the “Robin Babbini Outstanding Senior Award” to two deserving seniors each year.
