Saturday's Scoop: Barney's Beanery Chili Cookoff Heating Things Up for a Good Cause

Barney's is holding a charity chili cookoff block party with the firefighters of the Los Angeles area to benefit the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation.

As part of its ongoing 90th anniversary celebration,  will hold a chili cookoff from 12-4 p.m. Off-duty firefighters from Los Angeles County, Burbank and Pasadena fire departments will be volunteering their firehouse cooking secrets in hopes of having their chili served at all five Barney’s Beaneries through the end of the year. The judges are Fox11 news anchor Christine Devine, former Weakest Link host George Gray, Jimmy Kimmel Live sidekick Guillermo Diaz and travel writer Andrea Rademan.

The is providing a safe drop-off place for unwanted and unused prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in an effort to prevent pill abuse and theft. The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, more Americans abuse prescription drugs than the number of those using cocaine, hallucinogens and heroin combined.

Doors open at 8 p.m. and GA tickets are $15. Joe Purdy, with The Milk Carton Kids, will perform at at 8 p.m. The 2nd Annual L.A.
