Outfest Today: Sunday at the Movies
Eighteen programs are scheduled today at the LGBT film festival including a panel discussion with gay directors including Gregg Araki and others, plus Anne Heche in a raunchy comedy and a compilation of the best shorts shown in 30 years of Outfest.
Eighteen programs are on tap for Outfest’s fourth day. The annual gay and lesbian film festival is keeping movie-lovers busy catching up with the latest offering, some dashing back and forth from one theatre to the next to catch screening.
Today’s programs are being held at three different venues:
- Directors Guild of America (DGA) theatre (7920 Sunset Blvd. at Fairfax Avenue)
- Harmony Gold theater (7655 Sunset Blvd. at Stanley Avenue)
- REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theatre) at the Disney Concert Hall (631 W. 2nd Street) in downtown Los Angeles.
Same day tickets can be purchased at the venue box office one hour prior to screening time. Advance tickets for screenings happening later in the festival can be purchased in the DGA lobby.

My Best Day – quirky comedy about a crazy series of events that happens to a small-town lesbian forced to work her receptionist job on the July 4th holiday. (11:30 a.m., DGA 2).

30th Anniversary Shorts – compilation of the best and most influential short films shown at Outfest over the last 30 years (2:30 p.m., DGA 2)
That’s What She Said – raunchy comedy about two women looking for love in the wrong places, starring Anne Heche and Carrie Preston. (4:30 p.m., DGA 1)
30 Years of Outfest: Directors Tell All – panel discussion with gay directors talking about the evolution of gay cinema. Directors scheduled for the panel include Gregg Araki (The Living End, Mysterious Skin), Tommy O’Haver (Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss), Angela Robinson (D.E.B.S.) and Rose Troche (Go Fish) (5 p.m., DGA 2).
I Am a Woman Now – documentary about a group of 70-something transgender women looking back on their lives (5 p.m., Harmony Gold).
A Perfect Ending – drama about an unfulfilled housewife who finds passion in the arms of another woman (6:30 p.m., DGA 1).
Mommy is Coming – campy comedy about a lesbian couple in Berlin whose relationship is challenged when one’s mother comes to visit (8:30 p.m., REDCAT).
