Outfest Friday: Comedies, Dramas and Documentaries

Eight programs are on tap for Outfest’s ninth day. The annual gay and lesbian film festival is keeping movie-lovers busy catching up with the latest offerings of documentaries, drama, comedies and shorts.

Today’s programs are being held at three different venues:

• Directors Guild of America (DGA) theatre (7920 Sunset Blvd. at Fairfax Avenue)
• John Anson Ford Amphitheatre (2580 Cahuenga Blvd.)
• REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theatre) at the Disney Concert Hall (631 W. 2nd Street) in downtown Los Angeles.

Same day tickets can be purchased at the venue box office one hour prior to screening time. Advance tickets for screenings happening later in the festival can be purchased in the DGA lobby.

A complete directory of the films offered is available on the Outfest website, but below is a quick rundown of some of the best playing today:

Audre Lorde: The Berlin Years – documentary about the famed lesbian African-American poet, Audre Lorde (5 p.m., DGA 2).

Kiss Me – Swedish romantic drama about an engaged but uptight woman whose emotions are stirred when she meets a carefree woman. (7 p.m., DGA 1).

Stud Life – British drama about a gay teen and his lesbian best friend doing the London club scene (7:15 p.m., DGA 2).

BearCity 2: The Proposal – comedy sequel about a couple going to Provincetown to get married (8:30 p.m., Ford Amphitheatre).

Jobriath A.D. – documentary about an early 1970s glam rock singer marketed by Elektra Records as an authentically gay, American version of David Bowie (10 p.m., REDCAT). Screening is preceded at 8 p.m. by a separate-ticket cabaret show by Ann Magnuson performing Jobriath and Bowie’s music.
