City Council to Weigh Ban of Cigarette Sales Near Schools
The panel will hear discussion Monday night about a prohibition within 600 feet of campuses proposed by members Jeffrey Prang and Lindsey Horvath.
Tobacco will a major topic of discussion at Monday night’s City Council meeting. In addition to holding the of the proposed outdoor smoking ban, the panel also has a new item on its agenda regarding the sale of cigarettes.
The council’s proposed agenda for Monday night, available on the city’s website, includes an item reading, “An ordinance of the city of West Hollywood prohibiting the sale of tobacco products within 600 feet of schools and amending the West Hollywood Municipal Code.”
Further information on the website about the ordinance indicates the proposed bill would exemp “retailers in operation prior to Jan. 1, 2011.” The bill is authored by council members and along with their deputies.

That ordinance is listed as the last item on the agenda, which means it is scheduled to be heard at the close of the City Council meeting.
