PHOTOS: Candlelight Vigil for Slain MTA Bus Driver

Hundreds turn out Monday night for a candlelight vigil for Alan Thomas, the MTA bus driver fatally shot on Sunday morning.

Hundreds turned out for a candlelight vigil Monday night at the site where  Metropolitan Transit Authority bus driver Alan Thomas was fatally shot.  

Thomas was shot aboard a bus he was driving on Sunday at 9:09 a.m. on Santa Monica Boulevard at West Knoll Drive (near the Koo Koo Roo). His alleged shooter was the sole passenger on the bus at the time.

Friends and co-workers left flowers and told stories about Thomas, remembering him as a hard worker.

“He was a good person,'' LaTonya Prince told KCAL9 at the vigil. ``He was very humble. He liked to sit around at division and speak with everybody and play dominos. Just a positive person.”

Thomas was ``always helping out,'' Gloria Mercado told KCAL.

Anthony Craig Chambers, 41, of Los Angeles was arrested at the scene of Sunday morning's shooting and booked on suspicion of murder Monday morning at the sheriff's West Hollywood station. He is being held at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Twin Towers facility in lieu of $1 million bail.

The 51-year-old Thomas had worked for Metro for five years, according to the transit agency. His bus had just left the MTA hub at Santa Monica Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard when he was shot. He was driving the #105 route bus when he at the time of his shooting.

Thomas died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
